@farabiahmed one important question is whether you have the ability to compile with XCode (do you have a Mac). If so, then it may be possible to compile your own app, in which case you would be able to compile for iOS and include in your own app. The fundamental limitation on iOS (which does not exist on android) is that executable code must be signed by a single developer. This means that no python app on iOS can include external non-pure-py library support unless it is compiled in. Pyto has more active development, and might accept a pull request incorporating such functionality -- or, you could compile on your own and side load if you provision your device as a developer device, I think. Also the Pythonista app template would be an option, but mainly for standalone app (not an editor).

Another option would be to run code in a server (desktop PC) or something like sagecell -- in that case python acts more like a dumb client.

Thanks @mikael and @JonB! I'll take a look at those options...using the notification center to register for the lock-related notifications seems like a decent solution.

Has anyone noticed anything of this nature? I haven't had a chance to try making some simple tests to see if it is "normal" behavior for a socket to become disconnected when the device is locked/sleeps.

To answer the questions you both bring up:

It does need to be done programmatically, this is for picking a folder from within a running UI.

The Files sheet UI definitely seems to be able to pick a folder...at least, I've seen other apps use it for that purpose. Even pythonista itself can select a folder from the Files sheet for import and other things.

If it's just that pick_document() is restricted to only picking files, and cannot pick folders, that's what I'd want to know.

Have you tried using append and clear or del, rather than setting to a new empty list?

I.e
tableview.selected_rows.append((0,1))

And either

tableview.selected_rows.clear()

Or
del tableview.selected_rows[:]

To clear it.

I can imagine a scenario where the selected_rows object is linked in some way to the native iOS list, and so just setting to a new object doesn't actually clear the old one..

@dgelessus It’s easy to find unencrypted ipas for pretty much any app you want. Re-sign it with a developer ID, and you can install them on devices without jailbreak. I think there are sites that'll register your device in a developer account for much less than the $99/a you'd pay to Apple...

IOS applications can register to recieve "notifications" of certain system events.Since pythonista has a bridge to objectivec, it is possible to tap into those events, and register a python function to be called when the event occurs.

This code probably needs to handle cleared globals, and multiple runs ("deregister" the object), etc but would work for the simple use case presented.

Also works on iPhone 6s. It feels a lot snappier. Even though I have Pythonista on my phone, I have never used it for other than testing. But when you are coding who needs animations with the programming interface.

Can also confirm, if you do a hard shutdown of Pythonista, on relaunch everything is back to original. That's why I have put mine in the pythonista_startup.py (1.6 only)

@tgnelsgolf the preview/web browser can be opened by sliding any where on screen except for on the toolbar. In other words you can open it by sliding from the middle of the screen and this should help to reduce the conflict of ios9 features.
Remember that the current version of Editorial was made pre iOS 9, so when it was made it did not need to cater for anything in relation to the features that iOS 9 added. Updating an application like Editorial takes time.
