A few enhancement requests: dragging nested TP tasks, indenting, Setext headers...
I clung to TaskPaper.app until the iOS 8 update finally broke it. It was good while it lasted...
So, I found my way to Editorial, and I'm very impressed with it. Many thanks for including the TaskPaper mode. Editorial will also replace WriteRoom for me. :)
I have a couple of feature requests, listed below in approximate priority order. Hopefully all of these would be fairly simple to implement:
Dragging nested TaskPaper items:
I like the little handles on the right to move TaskPaper entries around, however I have a lot of large hierarchically nested lists, and am frequently re-ordering them based on current priorities. So moving items one-by-one doesn't work for me - I really need to be able to pick up an item along with all of it's sub-items and move them together (like the default behaviour in TP). Otherwise, I have to select, cut, and paste the lines, which is tedious and error-prone.
Soft-wrapped line indenting in Plain Text documents:
In plain text documents, I frequently use nested lists and indented paragraphs. These look very cluttered when lines wrap, breaking the visual organization. Soft-wrapping paragraphs flush with first line would cure this. Indenting behaviour could be an optional setting (e.g. see BBEdit's Editing preferences).
Changing indent level of multiple lines:
Is there a way to increase or decrease the indent level of multiple lines at once? Using Shift-Tab to decrease the indent level seems like an obvious extension of the existing Tab-to-indent behaviour. However, if I select multiple lines and hit tab, it replaces the selected text with a tab character. If I'm editing plain text and want to insert a tab in the middle of a line, I have to copy and paste it in. Seems like Shift Left and Shift Right are worthy of dedicated functions, leaving the Tab key for just inserting tabs at the cursor. Perhaps a better way of overloading the Tab key is needed (such as a press-and-hold popup with increase and decrease indent buttons)?
Inline preview support for Setext style headers:
I have a huge collection of plain text notes, made with my own formatting conventions, very similar to Markdown. I use Setext-style headers everywhere, which stand out better than Atx headers in plain text, and don't conflict with "# typical code comments". Since I tend to edit my notes while viewing, the live formatting is a welcome feature. It would be great if Setext headers were formatted, and more importantly generated links in the title drop-down, to assist with navigating large documents.
"Duplicate file" action in the file browser sidebar:
I make frequent use of template TaskPaper lists, which I copy and rename for one-time use. This is useful for any kind of procedure which needs to be executed each time without missing a step. Perhaps a pop up menu is the way to fit more file management actions at the bottom of the sidebar, or maybe switch to icons?
Support for more fonts:
I have my favorite fonts loaded into all of my iOS devices using "AnyFont". I'd like Editorial to give me access to the entire list of fonts on the device.
Love to hear of the request will be build in next Beta version of Editorial. My opinion i like to see 1,3,4,5
Hey I just want to answer for two things here-
Your number 1 request can be done. The little arrows on the left beside a heading are used for folding a set. So, if you fold it, then you can use the roght side vertical drag.
Works with nested lists too.
Number 3 can be done with a workflow. This is a major feature of Editorial. Look Here
For number 5 you can also make a template in Editorial. When you make a new file you can see "New Template" on the bottom. This is very powerful as well because you can set up workflow actions (for example, custom headings based on the date, document name) in your new file. (The template deal itself is a workflow, so it's good to read about workflows!)
