populating a new branch at github

last edited byI have a separate version of chordcalc residing in a separate directory in pythonista. This version has capos implemented (banjo's still fussy, but will fix it soon). Can the Git mavens out there tell me how (using shellista or the like) to push this version to the dev-capos branch on github rather than overwriting the main branch (chordcalc). I still don't quite get git. Thanks in advance.
PS. I'm from the toggle switch flipping, blinking lights, paper tape, punch card, DEC-Tape era. Been programming for a loooong time. Started with Fortran II on a MonroeBot desk calculator in 1968. My how things have changed.
