Editorial lost several files
-
I was working in Editorial on a plane with my iPad in airplane mode. I created and wrote several documents "in Dropbox". The next time I opened Editorial when I had a net connection, it evidently tried to synchronize those documents only to fail and completely delete them. They're gone now, several hours of work lost to the winds.
Has anyone else seen this behavior? I'm pretty upset at having lost work like this.

I'm pretty sure that I've added and edited files in Dropbox whilst off-line, and the changes have been synced by Editorial, so I believe what you did should have worked.
Once thing to try is, in Editorial:
- Select 'Aa' button at top-right of editor
- -> Show All Settings
- -> Advanced
- -> Show Deleted Files...
The UI says "This will show a backup of files that were deleted as being removed from Dropbox during sync". With any luck, you'll be able to see and copy your files out of there.
Another thing to try is to use the Dropbox web interface to see the history of all changes in your account. That way, if Dropbox saw the files and then there were deleted, you'll be able to recover them via the Dropbox Web UI.
Good luck.

Thank goodness, they're in the deleted files section. I'm not sure what happened: one of the files synced but the other five were deleted.
I'll check the Dropbox web UI to see if it saw the files at all.

Thanks, @ClareMacrae! This is what I would have suggested as well. Good to hear that you were able to recover the files – this certainly shouldn't happen, and quite honestly, I'm not sure why it did in this case. I thought that I had fixed this bug in version 1.2, but I also added the "deleted files" safety net, in case I didn't cover all cases with the bugfix (which was apparently the case). Sorry about the inconvenience!

I'm just glad I was able to recover them!
I tried making files in Dropbox in airplane mode again this morning, and all but one transferred over properly. One didn't, however, and scurried off to the deleted files folder.
Is there any log I could send you that would help you track down what's happening with my setup?

Hello, I have had a similar problem. I'm not in Airplane mode I'm just off line as I don't allow data roaming on my phone. I just create a new file without even naming it and then I periodically get very annoying dialog boxes that my phone cannot connect to dropbox. These boxes come up while I am typing interrupting the flow of my typing. On my commute this happened today and when I got to my desk with wifi the app started to connect and then all of a sudden my untitled.md document disappeared and I was presented with a blank screen.
Luckily I found the above post and was able to recover the document. I however lost work previously in Editorial 1.1 and didn't get it back so I use Editorial much less these days due to my loss of trust in it. I was eagerly awaiting and hoping that the 1.2 version had fixed this problem.
