Welcome!
This is the community forum for my apps Pythonista and Editorial.
For individual support questions, you can also send an email. If you have a very short question or just want to say hello — I'm @olemoritz on Twitter.
Syntax mode for Python?
-
So Editorial has a syntax mode for HTML, CSS and JavaScript, but not Python? JSON would be useful too.
-
This has to do with App Store policies (at some point, I wasn't allowed to open Python files anymore, in order to pass review). The policies may have changed, so I might bring back the ability to edit Python files in Editorial in the future.
-
To be more specific, the old App Store rules did not allow running code from external sources. Since Editorial supports Dropbox sync natively, it would have been against the rules to let users open and run Python scripts (because they could have come from Dropbox). For the same reason, Pythonista (which can edit and run Python scripts directly) does not have any built-in sync mechanism and can only import non-Python files.
With the recent changes to the App Store guidelines, the rules on "no importing code" have been relaxed a bit. They still contain a few restrictions that I'm not sure Editorial and Pythonista comply with, so the app review team might still reject an Editorial/Pythonista update that allows code editing/importing.

I don't see what syntax highlighting has to do with running documents as scripts. Surely they are two separate issues?

@simonh Good luck explaining that to Apple's app review department... :/
