Pythonista crashing on new file creation
-
I am having an issue with creating a new file or folder in pythonista by the built in UI. When I click on the + and then either new folder or empty script the UI just locks up. If I wait long enough Pythonista just crashes.
I have a feeling that this is because of the number of files and
folders I have in Pythonista.@omz I assume this a issue with the file browser that appears and it trying to build up the entire tree of files and folders before it displays. My work around currently is to use stash to create files and folders but this isn't ideal.

I have to confirm this. I’ve got lot of files / folders and it’s slow like ... Talking about iPad Pro. Can’t even imagine how slow it must be on other devices.
-
I have this too, though not as badly as @shaun-h described. I have the Python 3.5 source code and the iOS 9 headers lying around in Pythonista, and on my iPad mini the tree takes about 9 seconds to load. As with many things on my ancient device, I've just gotten used to the long loading times...

@dgelessus it's not much about ancient device. I've got several repos, content of
Pythonista.app
bundle in~/Documents
and it takes up to 5s to display folder tree on the latest iPad Pro. -
Anyway, this forced me to fill issue.

@shaun-h Just an idea - did you create any symbolic links (using
os.symlink
)? Pythonista doesn't treat symlinks specially, so if you symlink a folder, it shows the folder contents for the original and each symlink. If you have a circular symlink (that points to one of its parent folders) Pythonista will recurse forever and then crash. -
I am glad I am not the only one, I am using a iPad Pro and it use to be slow but now mines just crashes.
@dgelessus no I haven’t, it appears to be sheer file numbers for me. I have been working on a docset viewer like dash on Mac for Pythonista and the amount of files the docsets I am downloading contain are causing the issue I think.
