      I'm a newbie here.
What do people use to edit sprites.
I've tried the free dottable app, I can create images with a transparent background but can only save them via the photo stream. Loading them in Pythonista means the transparency is lost (due to photos?).

dottable can't save to iCloud drive, and I only have iOS 10 (device too old) so have to access to Files.

What do you use that can import to Pythonista and keeps the transparency?

Does Dottable provide any export options other than the iOS photo library? If it has a way to export the image with the standard iOS share sheet, you can use Pythonista's share extension to import the file.

The share extension might not be enabled by default, in that case you have to open a share sheet, scroll to the far right of the bottom row, tap on "More", then enable Pythonista in the list. Once that's done, you can share the file into Pythonista's share extension, and there you'll get an "Import File" option.

Thanks. dottable has only 2 export options: Save to Camera Roll, and Post to Twitter.
However, I've now found that I can keep the transparency via a PNG file through the Camera Roll,
so it does work (I was misunderstanding how dottable did transparency)

I see that Pythonista, has an Edit option for images, but dottable does not appear here, no doubt because it doesn't handle the share interface you mention.

So what do people use that works nicely with Pythonista?

I had the same issue when I completely started with pythonista, My solution was to download the app "file manager". (Simplistic yellow icon that looks like a folder). Just export any transparent images into this app and then press the export button, where you can choose the option "run pythonista script". Then a menu should pop up where you can import the file/folder into pythonista

You can try photoshop touch from an external software called tutuapp. Just go to tutuapp.vip and download the app. in the app you can then use the search function to download adobe photoshop touch. The app has been removed from the AppStore a few years ago, so this is the only way to still access it. It truly is an easy and incredibly powerful image editor (at least for ios). if you have one of the newer iPads you could download affinity photo fro me the App Store. It isn't exactly cheap, but definitely worth the money

This becomes a bit lengthy here, but everytime I post something I get new ideas :) to create game graphics you could also use vectornator, procreate, inkpad, pixelmator, graphic and artstudio. I only use vectornator, as it's fairly simple to use and generally flawless but still full of features (and the support is very active, so you can suggest new features that actually get added in the next update). But if you have a new iPad, get affinity photo, it really is the best you can get. Be sure to check the compatibility list in the app's description.
