IOS Background execution
-
I would just like to confirm that it is NOT possible for a Pythonista script to run in the background such that it is running when the screen is off or when it is on but not showing Pythonista?
-
I think Pythonista scripts can keep running in the background for a short while, until iOS decides to suspend/quit Pythonista. But in general or for a long time it's not possible.
There was a trick that worked during the beta where you could let Pythonista play a silent audio file on repeat, so that iOS would treat it like a music/audio player, which would let the app run forever in the background. I'm not sure if that still works in the App Store version though, or what exactly needed to be done to make it work. (I think the built-in
sound
module was not enough and you had to useobjc_util
to play the sound using specific APIs.) -
Thanks. That is what I recall but I wanted to make sure that was still the case. As an aside, it is really unfortunate that a program like Tasker (Android only) is impossible under IOS due to Apple's restrictive policies.
