Pythonista 3 with iCloud. Can't sync between devices.
-
Hi
I just bought Pythonista 3 for syncing Pythonista files between iPhone 6S and iPhone 4S. I am connected to iCloud on both devices to the same iCloud account. On both devices I see an iCloud folder and I can put files in it but it seems that both devices have a different iCloud folder. I don't see any files in the iCloud folder on the other device.
Whats wrong?
Thanks Jens

@Kluesi you should see them on iCloud Drive/Pythonista3 folder
iPhone 4S = iOS 9, I hope Pythonista 3 iCloud is compatible...
In the past, some people got the same problem. They have had to
"Turn off iCloud drive on all your iOS devices and turn on again" -
Hi there. If you have a iPhone 4S, the latest OS is iOS 9.3.6. iCloud Drive support on there is old and shady. The iPhone 6S is a little outdated but should be fine.
However on a new device Pythonista doesn’t behave with iCloud Drive so great. I run my projects right out of the iCloud drive folder to keep things safe. I learned sometimes my project won’t load and the app will lock up because the iCloud-Pythonista syncing is very slow.
For the most part all works good. You have to have good hardware to run Pythonista well.

@donnieh, I run all my projects from Github, after having lost all my iCloud files.

@mikael wow good to know. What do I have to do to run github code right in Pythonista? I never used GitHub and will have to quickly learn.
-
@donnieh, I use the Working Copy app to manage the github repositories, then open the Working Copy directories from Pythonista. The only extra step you need is that you occasionally need to actually commit your latest changes to the online repository.
Advantage of using Github or any other similar provider is of course that you also get the functionality for versioning, issues and pull requests.
But you might want to wait a moment, to see whether we get a version of Pythonista where opening external folders works with iOS 13.

@mikael Understood. Thanks for the useful and helpful information!
