Pythonista and Mido midi library
-
Hi, has anybody been successful in getting Mido (a Python midi library) to work in Pythonista?
I have successfully installed it with 'pip install mido' but when I try to execute a simple program to look for connected devices I get "Unknown module rtmidi" error. Any help would be fantastic.
thank you -

Thank you ccc for your reply and links. Unfortunately they don't address my problem which is to use MIDO to capture a performance from a digital piano in MIDI format and eventually convert it into a score. My question was specifically about MIDO, i e. why it does not work in Pythonista and is there someone that has had success with it and could throw some light into the problem.

Unless Mido was written specifically for pythonista, it is not going to work (e.g unless it is written for coremidi on iOS), since other midi libraries are not built into pythonista, and iOS is limited to static libraries. The point of those links was to give you a starting point if you want to try tackling this -- a few have tried, none have succeeded. In part because coremidi is a very low level protocol, requiring ctypes instead of objc, which makes it extremely hard to debug and get right.
