A few questions on publishing from Editorial
-
A big problem I run into writing on the iPad is that I can't upload to places like Kindle or Smashwords because the browsers default the upload buttons into the photo library. Is it possible to use a workflow from within the app to force the in app browser to upload through Editorial: this way we can pull from dropbox?
This major sticking point is a big reason that the iPad can't replace my Mac for my entire writing process, so if this was possible it would be amazing!

I am new to the phrase, but it seems that a "URL Scheme" is what you would use to work with other apps.

Can you explain what you want to do in more detail. And list the steps you would expect do go through to do it.

Thanks for your replies!
The first step would be converting the file to the .doc format. I've done some research and this is possible in python.
The next step in the publishing process is to navigate to the web based dashboard of amazon or smashwords. In the dashboard I need to be able upload the .doc file I convert with editable.
The main problem is that by default when a browser asks you to upload a file it always sends you to images. I need script in some way within the app a way to bypass this.

Here's a workflow to turn Markdown to Docx. The output isn't formatted as nicely as I'd like, and my attempts to prettify it haven't been very successful, but it does work. I made it months ago but haven't shared it because of this. I don't know if the script will help but you're welcome to use it. It's a modification of Caleb McDaniel's MD to PDF. Uses Docverter. This one lets you rename the output and then opens it using console.quicklook
Would actually love to see some improvements on the outputs formatting actually, if anybody ever gets a chance and feels so compelled. I'm interested to see if this publishing workflow of yours will be possible. Hope it is. And hope this helps, at least as an example. Cheers!

I wouldn't use .doc now, it's proprietary and has been replaced by .docx. the_butch's script will make your docx. Or, better, perhaps the website you will be uploading to accepts Markdown or HTML directly.
To upload your file: I doubt that an editorial workflow or python script will be able to control a browser and upload a file as you want. However, the website you want to upload to will probably let you upload in other ways: FTP is a common way. You can easily write python scripts to do FTP and other file transfer methods. Though I haven't done this.
I suggest: Look on the website you want to upload to for documentation of ways to upload files. If you want an Editorial solution, search the editorial extra workflow site and use google to find python scripts to upload your file. However, there are iOS apps that do FTP and other kinds of file transfer, and using one of these to start with will be much easier.

Agreed. If you can upload as markdown, I personally would find that exponentially more preferable to any proprietary format, especially Office-based formats. I have to use docx for school sometimes, due to some professors not being up to date with, nor caring about, technology. Though I write all my notes in markdown and most assignments start there too (if I can submit a PDF, I just use one of the workflows for that and it looks much nicer than the docx output I've been getting).
Viticci had a script/workflow for uploading from Editorial to Wordpress (not the .com) blogs. I think it was in his iBook, but I could be wrong.
