Import file
-
How do I import in ios7?
Thanks -
Perhaps I am using wrong word.
If on my pc I have a file test.py containing python code, how do I 'import' it into Pythonista so I can edit and use the code to build a more complex script? -
There's no "official" support for any kind of code import because Apple doesn't allow this. There are various ways to do it however; the easiest would be to download DiskAid (free version is enough for this), enable the "Show all Apps" setting, and just drag the file you want into Pythonista's documents folder.

MANY THANKS!!!!!
Will try

Hmmmm
I don't see diskaid in the apple apps store??? -
Search the forums for Dropbox, ther is a Dropbox module.
https://omz-forums.appspot.com/pythonista/post/4995757044137984
Ther are several gist download scripts. And if you run shellista
https://github.com/transistor1/shellista
you can easily use github. -
The old fashioned approach is to email the file to yourself on the PC. Then read the mail on your iOS device. Copy the code and paste it into a new, empty Pythonista script.

Thanks

I don't get this. E-book applications can have e-books in different formats transferred from iTunes on a Windows PC. The Golly Cellular Automaton program can receive rules and patterns the same way. I can export a .py file from Pythonista to DropBox.
Why must it be so difficult to transfer scripts from my other Python Work platforms to Pythonista on Ios? I simply don't buy the Apple Rules excuse. I cannot agree with spauker that the answers here are most helpful. omz, as the author and SELLER of Pythonista you must be interested in giving us buying users better solutions! -
To be fair, OMZ has given us some solutions. They just have to be added as python scripts. For instance I use dropbox sync and dropbox file picker from here. With dropbox sync I use the dropbox app on my computer and just keep all of my scripts in the app folder I sync with pythonista.

Pythonista has been removed from the app store before for smaller things than what you are asking. It is easy to add what you are asking for. It is not easy to keep an app in the app store when you push Apple's limits. Apple is very, very sensitive to anything they view could become an app platform.
gistcheck works very well, through, for personal code in/out. :) Like all pythonista tools, you can find it here, under utilities.

I do all my transferring with shellista and scp (secure copy). ssh into your desktop and get/put files.
-
@briarfox How do you invoke scp from shellista? Or if I am incorrectly parsing your post, how do you invoke scp from pythonista? Do you have a script that uses paramiko?
-
@ihf Grab the dev-modular shellista.py Then do plugin install ssh. Use help ssh to view command usage.
Make sure you use a clean dir on first fun.

As others said above, since Apple restricts the downloading if executable code, I usually just copy/paste the code in, or use Shellista to import from GitHub.
