matplotlib pylab questions ...

Can matplotlib and pylab be used in a view or scene view? If yes - can the animation capabilities be accessed? I have been trying examples from http://matplotlib.org/examples/index.html and non of the animation ones seem to work, but most others work fine in the console.
I am not familiar with the history of these packages, but I see a lot of code that likes to have scipy as part of the pylab set of modules and I python? Was this suppose to be a free alternative to matlab?

No, animation isn't supported in Pythonista's version of matplotlib (as mentioned in the documentation under "Using matplotlib in Pythonista").
As for using a plot in a view, that's possible by rendering it to an image file, and then just using that in an ImageView. It's not really suitable for interactivity though (usually too slow to render a plot on an iOS device).

I guess this explains why mcarrara3 wrote PlotView

I missed the pythonista specific info in the docs. Will spend some time reading the other docs now that I know.
