Pythonista for OSX
-
I apologize if this has been covered somewhere in the forums— I could not find how to search.
First off, this app is absolutely amazing. I stumbled on to it while looking for something to teach my 10 year old how to program with and have been floored by the fit and finish.
Having said that, I've got to wonder if the author might port it to OSX where I suspect it could be sold for more $ and find a quick home letting kids and adults build games, utilities, and all sorts of other really neat stuff.
I get that tablets are the future of PCs but it is going to take a while and it feels a little silly to be constrained by the lack of multiple window support that iOS imposes now, especially when getting beyond anything but a really simple script.
Yes there is PyGame and PyUI* and if you have real hair on your chest, the abandoned PyObjC as a bridge. But none of these things have the the fit and finish of Pythonista and I am fairly confident that a port, given the latter's minimalist dependence of UIKit— wouldn't be that much of a slog.
Anyway some feedback from an awed and amazed happy customer.

Thanks for your kind words. I don't have plans for making an OS X version of Pythonista at the moment. While I do see the appeal to some degree, I really don't have the resources – while some parts of the app could be easily ported without many changes, there are others (mostly the code editor) that would essentially need to be completely rewritten for OS X. I'm just one person and it took me over a year to get to version 1.0 for just one platform. Porting it to another would very likely come at the expense of improving the existing app.
