What are people doing with Editorial
-
I'm new to the python world and I recently found Pythonista and I'm loving it.
I saw the discussions about Editorial and the troubles with Apple and I bought it to 1) be sure I had it if Apple pulled it and 2) give Ole some money because he deserves it for the excellent work he does.
BUT, I really don't know what to do with Editorial. It looks cool and seems like something I could use, but I'm not really sure.
Can anybody share what they use it for? But in high level, here is the big-picture, conceptual kind of way please.

I personally use Editorial pretty much solely for its powerful automation capabilities.

Thanks Coder123 But to automate what?

Rothrock, Editorial pretty much contains Pythonista within it, but it is designed to make workflows that extend the capabilities of the app. It's also much faster and easier for people with less experience in Python to perform certain actions. There's a workflow directory <a href = "www.editorial-workflows.com">here</a> to downloaded user created workflows. As for automation, I personally think Pythonista is better, with more modules, et cetera, but you can create workflows to, for example, download content from the internet, or automatically post articles to Wordpress, sometimes after a JavaScript bookmarklet in Safari has been clicked. Things like this should already be included in iOS, or at least that's what I think. (I'm being forced to use iOS, my middle school has its students use iPads.)

<li> Correct me if I'm wrong here, but didn't Apple announce at WWDC that they would include 'extensions' to bridge the automation/inter-app communication gap in iOS 8?

Sorry, the "a" tag obstinately refuses to work for me. Here's the url to the workflow directory: www.editorial-workflows.com

Editorial is most useful for "Document Automation" (Wikipedia has an entry on it). Its primary focus is as a Markdown editor.
However, with the new user interface stuff, you can make a private custom business app if you want to (as with pythonista). With the workflows it's just much easier than programming from scratch.
But, I have created a simple workflow that allows me to use editorial as an html and css editor (best there is too!).
I could even make it a Latex editor if I knew how. I could make it a JavaScript editor also (quite simply I suppose).

Editorial is a great text editor, so I use it to write things. I have also written workflows because I find it fun. A workflow is like a simple computer program.
I think the word 'automation' is, or was originally, used in iOS to refer to apps calling each other to do work that no app could do alone. Editorial workflows let you do this in a simple way, but they let you do many other things as well.
What I did, and I suspect most people do, is to start off using the features supplied with Editorial. When I wanted to do something it didn't do I went to the workflow directory mentioned above and found and downloaded a workflow that did what I wanted. Then I found it was easy to customise a workflow. Then I found it a bit more complicated, but still doable, to write my own workflows to get Editorial to do new things. I wrote several new workflows to convert Markdown to PDF.

I don't write or anything like that, I am digital hoarder, so being able
to make a standard workflow to move this, there, and that.just throwing our the opposite side of the spectrum that enjoys editori.

From my (just posted) App Store review:
This app has been blowing my mind since I first downloaded it a few months ago. The capabilities are just amazing. It seems like there's nothing that you can't do with text when using this app. It's truly amazing. Once you learn a little bit of markdown, you can post photos to your blog using plain text, you can automatically send formatted emails, you can create markdown formatting with a tap.
There is so much potential that I haven't explored in the. 1.0 release and now 1.1 is out with even more capability. Amazing!
I've been wanting to learn Python for a couple years and now I have the motivation to do it. I'll be able to use my new Python skills to do useful things with my iPad and not just make little games on the PC like all the books show you.
This is such a great app and now available on the iPhone. Amazing!
Update: I've learned a little bit of Python now and I'm able to pull information for contacts to send emails to automatically, sort lists of data and more! Such a great app!

Thanks everybody. This is a lot to think about. I'm sure I'll find a use for it. I've got some thinking and experimenting to do!
